H&R Block vacates Atlantic Ave

13 10 2009

Picture 1Looks like the economy has been a little too ‘taxing’ for the H&R Block on Atlantic between Court and Boerum Pl. The business has emptied its storefront as of today. This marks the FIFTH store closing on just one side of this block in the past year.

2. Cartridge World – closed and reopened by new management

3. The laser hair removal place – now inhabited by a shady-looking cellphone accessory store.

4.Oricao hair salon – still closed

5.The dry cleaner next to that – still closed

6.H&R Block is the latest casualty

230 Atlantic has been vacant for several years now.

All these dark store fronts are contributing to the disgusting nature of the streets. The sidewalk is often strewn with chicken bones, dirty diapers, and general litter, now that so few business owners are there to keep it clean.

Anyone else find this block particularly nasty? Why can’t businesses seem to make it in such a pedestrian heavy zone? Is this block of Atlantic destined to be as bleak as the inside of H&R?IMG_1586
